Studio In The Winter Garden
Timber Shell And Photography Space

Setting Analysis

Light is the main criterion in choosing a photography studio’s location. The winter garden receives more daylight than the surrounding spaces. Natural light from morning to evening is considered together with the artificial lighting available throughout the day.

Movement And Circulation

Movement And Circulation

Movement continues through the studios throughout the day. The most frequently used routes inform the shape of the photography space. The proposal defines its own working area while keeping these circulation paths open.

A free form allows the studio to fit around existing circulation. Openings between surfaces that control daylight can be increased or reduced according to the angle of light.

Background colour and light angle matter in model photography. The programme proposes four adjustable lights, a table and a chair. Sun angle, movement, model size, table length and photographic clearance inform the form study.

A photography space shaped by light and movement.

Photoscope is a photography space proposal for the winter garden within MEF University’s design studios. This shared area, which receives daylight throughout the day, becomes a place for photographing architectural models. Continuous movement around the site is considered alongside light from the outset.

Accommodating Movement

A free-form shell defines the photography area without interrupting existing routes. Circulation paths and the direction of sunlight are considered together. The parametric form study explores variables including sun angle, model size, table length and the clearance required for photography.

Controlled Light, Continuous Surface

Curved steel profiles and flexible plywood form a surface rising from the floor to wrap around the studio. Gaps admit daylight, while the photographic backdrop defines a more controlled setting. A table, chair and adjustable lighting provide the essential equipment for this small workspace.
